July 29
Only for about 2 hours, he had been sleeping. Mosquitoes’ attacks made him awake. It’s dark in his room. Mosquitoes were sounding in the warm, humid and stagnant air. He slapped them again and again, but they tried to bite him repeatedly. The bitten part itched. He still felt sleepy, becoming angry, and swung his arm around many times, then, he stood up and opened a wooden sliding door outside the window.
In the summer dawning world, fainter than the water, there was even no breeze. A rooster crowed twice.
Two cicadas started to make sounds in a distance. Songs of sparrows. The beat of a temple drum in the neighbor had begun, then, a bell from a distance showed 5:00. The beat stopped and sparrows started to sing more loudly. A milkman had passed outside the window.
Soon after the breakfast, some letters were delivered.
The lack of sleeping made him dispirited and gave many yawns this day.
About 10:00, Kyosuke came and had been talking with him until about 4:00.
Toward evening, he went out for a while and bought mosquito repellent incenses. On his way back, he stopped at a shaved ice parlor.
The sleepiness made his brain cloudy. He burnt a incense and slept.
